�We know that in this country when we mention drugs we know the party that comes in mind. They (NPP) should not be looking for a twin brother that does not exist when it comes to matters of illicit drugs,� intimated the National Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams. This comment was in response to a statement issued by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) through its Communication Director Nana Akomea on Wednesday, January 7, 2014. According to the statement, the ruling NDC cannot exonerate itself from the Nayele Ametefe cocaine scandal. Nayele Ametefe was arrested at the Heathrow Airport late last year for attempting to smuggle a class �A� drug into the UK. She pleaded guilty to charges leveled against her. The Ghanaian�Austrian woman was on Tuesday sentenced to 8 years and 8 months in prison by the Isleworth Crown Court in Middlesex, London in the United Kingdom. In the statement, the NPP questioned the presence of a �Ghana High Commission diplomatic car on the tarmac at the Heathrow Airport� at the time when Nayele also known as Ruby Adu Gyamfi was busted by the British Border Agency with drugs. Apart from that the NPP wants to know what steps the Mahama-led government intends taking to ascertain the authenticity of claims by Nayele�s lawyer, James Scoobie in court; that powerful personalities in government supported his client. Reacting to the statement from the NPP in an interview on Citi FM, Kofi Adams advised Nana Akomea and the NPP to �stay away� from discussing or politicizing the Nayele cocaine saga because when it comes to drug issue, �even a day old child� knows NPP comes first. He described the statement issued by the NPP as �a package of allegation� to draw the party NDC and the President into the Nayele cocaine saga. �The NDC will continue to set very good standards for governance�Nana Akomea has been appointed Director of Communication of the NPP; he has a responsibility to help NPP and he will help NPP better if he stays away from commenting on matters to deal with drugs because it is very clear that in this country when we want to talk about drugs and we want to politicize it, the first party that will come to even a day old child�s mind is the NPP� �We have never run away from this subject; the Nayele case�we have responded to it in such a way that is very responsible; including arresting officials who allowed the lady to use the VIP lounge and so on�President Mahama will continue to offer leadership in fighting the illicit drug menace that confronts the country and even the international community knows that this government is committed to fighting this menace� he opined.
