Mahama Must Sack Energy Minister - Peter Amewu

Peter Amewu has asked President Mahama to as a matter of urgency, dismiss the Minister of Energy, Emmanuel Kofi Buah. If I were in government what I would have done is to sack the Minister before creating another Ministry. He is the cause of the problem facing the energy sector, Peter Amewu said. Ghana has been struggling with inconsistent power supply for some time now. The challenge compelled government to create the Ministry of Power and appoint the Member of Parliament for Pru East and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Dr. Kwabena Donkor to head. But speaking on Citi FMs News Analysis Programme, The Big Issue, Mr Amewu said the creation of the power Ministry would have been needless if government had dismissed Kofi Buah. According to him, the creation of the power Ministry is a clear indication of governments failure in addressing the power generation crisis. It was clear, government itself admitted the failure in the Energy Sector in 2014 but creating the sector will not address the problem, he said Peter Amewu is not the first to raise concerns about the creation of a power ministry. The former Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Dr. Wereko-Brobby in 2014 also indicated that the creation of the power ministry will not resolve Ghanas energy crisis. A more technocratic organisation being supervised by a Minister in a Presidents office, as a special minister will save us all the cost of creating directors, chief directors which is not what is required to solve the power problem, the former VRA boss suggested.
