Power Ministry To Focus On Revenue Mobilization And Collection

The Minister for Power Hon Dr Kwabena Donkor has disclosed his plan to ensure agencies under his Ministry will devise strategies and other creative ways of mobilizing and collecting revenue to enable them finance their expenditure without recourse to government and also strengthen their balance sheet for financial transactions in the open market. The Minister who made the disclosure during the swearing in of a member of the Ghana grid Company (GRIDCO) governing board Mr Mark Ofori-Amanfo also touched on the laxity in ensuring that ministries, departments, agencies and other state institutions are put on prepaid electric meters to ensure proper accountability as these institutions have budgets for electricity bills. We will aggressively ensure state institutions including schools, hospitals, barracks etc pay their electricity bills as required; we know these state institutions budget for electricity so we will work closely with their mother ministries to ensure that their bills are paid. The Minister stated emphatically. He urged Mr Ofori-Amanfo to bring his vast experience in the financial sector to bear on activities of GRIDCO; the countrys main power transmission company, as their role is critical in ensuring stability in the power sector. Mr Ofori-Amanfo is a Chartered Accountant by profession and has worked as Managing Partner for Virtual Points Associates, Country Manager for Ghana and The Gambia for North American Airlines as well as Expenditure Accountant for the Ghana Airways and Uniliver Ghana Limited.
