Sports Ministry To Make Public 2015 AFCON Budget

The Sports Ministry will make known the Black Stars budget for the 2015 African Cup of Nations before the tournament kicks off on Saturday January 17. The Ghana FA and the Sports Ministry for the past three-four weeks have been discussing the Black Stars budget for this months Nations Cup. It was alleged earlier on that the Ministry had rejected a budget of $9.6million presented by the FA for the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea, a report which was later on quashed by the Ministry. Ghanas estimated budget for the 2013 edition of the competition was an alleged $7.8 million which had $4million approved by the government for the tournament in South Africa. Many Football enthusiasts and pundits have remained anxious on the announcement of the National teams budget for this years Africas elite football competition. Speaking with UTVs Saturdays Sports morning show host Dan Kwaku Yeboah on Agro nie, deputy Sports Minister Vincent Oppong Asamoah says his outfit will disclose the 2015 AFCON budget before the tournament kicks starts in five days time. The Minister [Mahama Ayariga] will make the budget known before the tournament starts, he said. We dont want a repeat of what happened in Brazil. We are aware of the fact that the general public need to know the teams budget for the tournament hence the sector minister has decided to make the budget known before the tournament starts. The team is however expected not to replicate its World Cup debacle at the Nations Cup having performed poorly in Brazil due to unpaid bonuses leading to player management conflict and players boycotting of training session. Meanwhile, The Black Stars will leave Spain [Seville] to Equatorial Guinea today for the 2015 African Cup of Nations. The team is currently in the Spanish City of Seville. Coach Avram Grants side has so far played two friendly games against Portuguese second-tier side SC Olhanense and Dutch eredivisie Cambuur winning 3-0 and drawing 1-1 respectively. Ghana will take on Senegal in her first group game before playing South Africa and then round-up their group matches win a tough game against Africas top ranked side Algeria.
