CDD-Ghana To Empower Ghanaians Through I Am Aware

As a way empowering Ghanaians, the Center for Democratic Development Ghana (CDD- Ghana) has initiated the I Am Aware program to make successive government accountable. The project which is being funded by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation (USA) is aimed at giving every ordinary Ghana a voice in the way our resources are managed by our political leaders. In 2012, the first phase of the I AM Aware program commenced and ended in May 2013. The second phase is expected to end in December, 2017. Under the IAA program, access to information would be flexible and constituents would get the opportunity to know about corrupt and law abiding officials. Out of the numerous districts in Ghana, the project is expected to be carried in 40 and this was revealed by Dr. Edem Selormey at the launch of IAA. As part of this, an information centre would be set up at the various district levels and the facility could be accessed by the public for free. Areas to be examined would include hospitals and under this, the number of beds used by patients would be looked at. Schools with and without toilet, portable water and other facilities would also be looked at. Roads in cocoa growing communities would be checked. The need to ensure political figures and government appointees work as enshrined in our constitutions, motivated the CDD-Ghana to come out with such a project, Dr. Selormey added.
