Mr Agyabeng Mensah Abrampa, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), has appealed to passengers to insist and wear seat belt whenever they board commercial vehicles. He stressed the need for passengers to be adamant on drivers in ensuring that seat belts are fixed in all commercial vehicles to reduce road crash fatalities this year. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani, Mr Abrampa said road crashes could be minimized if passengers demanded and ensured that drivers strictly adhered to road safety precautions. He also appealed to corporate and non-governmental organizations to be interested and support activities of the Commission to minimize road accidents in 2015. Mr Abrampa said road safety education had no specific periods and was done all year long and that such education required huge resources and appealed to stakeholders to support. He said the relationship between the Commission and its key stakeholders such as transport unions and organizations, Driver Licensing and Vehicle Authority as well as Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service ought to be strengthened. Mr Abrampa said the 938 recorded road accident cases in the region in 2014, which killed 383 people, and injured about 1,318 others was disturbing and a lot more ought to be done to reduce it drastically in 2015.
