Assemblies Urged To Be Transparent In Procurement

The New Juaben Municipal Branch of Social Public Expenditure Financial Accountability (SPEFA), a civil society group, has called on the Assemblies to be transparent in the award of contracts and procurement to give equal opportunity to all eligible bidders. The group said the assemblies must account for every contract awarded so that the citizens know what their taxes are being use for to motivate them to honour their tax obligations. Addressing a meeting at Koforidua which was attended by assembly members, disable groups , workers and the general public, Mr Kofi Adjei-Mensah, the Project Coordinator, advised the people to learn and know the public procurement Act of 2003 to be able to hold the assemblies accountable. Mr Adjei-Mensah said governments must not take credit for development in the country but rather give the credit to the citizens because through their hard work, taxes and resources that projects are undertaken. He also advised contractors to look at their competence level before taking up projects.
