Nana Addo Back To UK For Medical Review?

After sneaking into the country to avoid the prowling lenses of the noisy Ghanaian media and to quell speculations of his not-too-good health, doubtful 2016 presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is back in the United Kingdom (UK) ostensibly for a media encounter, but party insiders exclusively confirmed to this paper that he is there to seek further medical assistance to his undisclosed ailment. Although official communiqu from Nana Akufo-Addos office said his latest sudden visit to the UK was at the instance of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to partake in a panel discussion on the 750th anniversary of Westminster Parliament, this paper can confirm that AkufoAddos trip back to the UK in less than two weeks is also for routine medical review. Our source in the UK and party insiders say Nana Akufo-Addos invitation to the UK only coincided with a two week medical leave he sought from his UK doctors at the behest of weary NPP political strategists back in Ghana, desirous of winning political power in the next presidential election in 2016 and fearful that his continuous stay in the UK will undermine his chances of winning power in the impending elections. Reports are that the twice-defeated presidential candidates absence in Ghana was damping confidence among NPP supporters and as part of measures to arrest the situation, linchpins of Nana Akufo-Addo pressured him to defy medical advice for him to stay in the UK for another two weeks for proper observation. Two weeks ago, Nana Akufo-Addo sneaked into the country after spending nearly three weeks in London without the usual fanfare and wild media coverage that characterize his similar returns from overseas in the past. Well-wishers and party stalwarts including disqualified flag bearer aspirant, Lawyer NkrabeaEffahDartey, who got wind of Nana Addos arrival were turned away when they attempted to be among the first to physically see him after his return from the UK, following speculations he was unwell. Party sources say while in the UK for the BBC event, Nana Akufo-Addo will take the opportunity to undergo thorough medical examinations to shape him ahead of the 2016 campaign. The statement said the former Foreign Affairs Minister in the Kufuor government was invited by the BBC, as someone who has spoken very eloquently on democracy and governance, to speak in a panel discussion on the future of democracy in Africa at 1100hrs GMT. Nana Akufo-Addo, the statement added, will also be interviewed on BBCs Focus on Africa program after the panel discussion after 1200hrs GMT. While in London, Akufo-Addo, on Wednesday, January 21, will also deliver a speech at Chatham House, the prestigious Royal Institute of International Affairs, on the topic Developing Ghana policies for prosperity. According to the statement, Akufo-Addo who will be expected back home on Wednesday, January 21 was accompanied by Ms. Elizabeth Ohene, former Minister of State in the Kufuor administration and former Deputy Editor at the BBC African Service for English Daily Programmes, and Captain Edmund Koda, the statement added.
