Artisans By Day, Robbers At Night

The Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has cautioned the public to be weary of artisans and people they employ to do menial jobs in their homes. �Most of these people are spies for armed robbery gangs and pretend to be artisans while gathering information about their potential victims� he stated. The Accra Region Commander sounded this caution at a press briefing on the arrest of eight suspected armed robbers believed to have been connected to some series of armed robberies executed around East Legon, Atraco, Zoomlion, Adenta, Madina and its environs. The suspects are Michael McCarthy, 21, an ex-convict; Richmond Kojo Sarpong, 24, a bus conductor; Bright Akamenko, 24, a bus conductor and Sadik Mubarak, 20, a trader. The rest are Baba Abass, 18, Ibrahim Alhassan Addulai, 22, an Auto Mechanic, Abuguri Osman, 18 and Joe Ofori, 35. In addition to the eight armed robbers, two recipients of some of the stolen items were also arrested Yunus Mubarak, 24 a fashion Designer and Ahmed Hamidu, 24, a conductor. The police retrieved 1 pump Action gun, 17 live catridges, three Samsung Galaxy S4 phones, one Nokia phone, a Laptop and a face mask from the robbers. Briefing the press, the Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno stated that the suspects attacked and robbed a Nigerian National at East Legon around Zoomlion headquarters and shot the victim in the chest. The victim is currently receiving medical care. In another operation, the suspected robbers attacked and robbed a former lecturer of the University of Ghana within the same vicinity and made away with 2000, 7000, a Samsung Galaxy phone, one Airtel phone, a driver�s license and one ATM card. On January 5 this year, the same gang of robbers attacked and robbed a pharmaceutical Company at Atraco and made away with 27,000, three mobile phones and an ipad. During their interrogations the suspects admitted their involvement in the robberies and also have been identified by their victims and are being processed for court.
