THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that it is not perturbed about the series of demonstrations orchestrated by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) against the government since demonstrations do not win elections.
This was disclosed by the Eastern regional youth organizer of the NDC, Haruna Apaw Wiredu during the inauguration of the Akyem Oda Methodist College of Education (METCOE) branch of the Tertiary Education Institution Network of the NDC (TEIN) at Akyem Oda in the Eastern region on Saturday under the theme: ''Building a Substantial Better Ghana Through the Youth.”
According to him, the government and NDC are focused on delivering their campaign promises and are not moved by the actions of the NPP having known the NPP to have a history of treacherous politics when in opposition.
He said, the NPP whenever in opposition radiate as detractors with ‘agenda mass destruction for government in power’ which has been noted since the tenure of Ghana's first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The youth organizer said the NPP has adopted demonstrations as part of its smear campaign strategy to frustrate the governance system and make the government unpopular ahead of the 2016 election as announced by the NPP after the 2012 election that they (NPP) will make the country ungovernable.
According to him, the attitude of the opposition party is unpatriotic and disloyal to the country which Ghanaians should reject in 2016.
He averred to the enthusiastic students gathered at the College's auditorium that,''2016 election is not going to be on lies, deceit, smear campaign, demonstrations, dumsor as the NPP has started, but on realities of development witnessed by Ghanaians.”
He said, for instance, stakeholders in the education sector will always reward the NDC for their immense contributions to the improvement and expansion of educational infrastructure in the country since the era of Former President Jerry John Rawlings, Late President John Mills and incumbent President John Dramani Mahama.
He said all ten polytechnics as well as University for Development Studies and University for Health and Allied Sciences were established by the NDC government while their opponents, NPP, didn't add a single tertiary institution when they were in power for eight years.
He assured the students that, President Mahama will soon cut sod for the construction of a University in the Eastern region as promised in the NDC manifesto, adding that the track record of NDC in education would be melodious when the over 200 community Day Senior High Schools being constructed across the country are completed.
He assured that the current economic challenges and power crises would soon be over due to both long term and short term measures put in place by government.
The Deputy eastern regional youth organizer of the NDC, Benedicta Larsi ,entreated the youth in the party to hold on to the spirit of voluntarism ,commitment and dedication to campaign towards 2016 election.
She said the NDC has always been a party for the youth, hence, recognizes efforts and ability of the youth whenever in power.
Ms. Larsi stressed that the regional youth wing recognizes the important role of TEIN, therefore, will continue to support them with resources and logistics to facilitate their campaign activities.
The district chief executive for Birim central municipality, Kwabena Nkansah Asare who chaired the inauguration ceremony urged the youth to be proud of being members of the NDC and uphold the principles of diligence, truthfulness and accountability to the party and country as a whole to ensure the achievement of the Better Ghana Agenda.
He entreated the students to be abreast with current issues and achievements of government in order to campaign effectively.
The President of METCOE Chapter of TEIN, Prince Okyere, after their swearing –in, on behalf of the executives pledged to work hard among the students and the youth front to ensure the achievement of operation 50-50 agenda set by the Eastern regional executives of the party.
The program was well attended by both constituency executives and some regional executives including the deputy regional organizer, Hackman Kabore and Emmanuel Minta, the deputy regional secretary.
