The Majority Leader, Mr Alban S. K. Bagbin, has commended the Tripartite Committee for successfully negotiating a national minimum wage in record time.
“Given Ghana’s recent history of labour unrests on issues relating to salaries and wages, the Majority Caucus in Parliament would like to rightly commend the leadership and the rank and file of the Ghana Employers Association and the Trades Union Congress on one hand; and the Ministries of Finance and Employment and Labour Relations on the other, for the quick consensus on the minimum wage,” he said in a statement in Accra yesterday.
“For Ghanaians to be able to rise above their challenges in nation building, we should all learn from this example of how to smartly and quickly resolve our competing interests, no matter how intractable and contentious they may seem,” he said.
According to him, “As true champions of the cause of labour, the Majority are particularly happy and do indeed highly commend the negotiating parties for paving the way for a smoother operation of the national budget this year”.

On January 20, 2015, the National Tripartite Committee announced an increment in the minimum wage from GH¢6.00 to GH¢7.00.
The implementation of the new wage, which represents a 16.7 per cent increase over the old one, took effect from January 1, this year.
