Swedru Police Grab 7 �Wee� Peddlers

The Swedru Divisional Police last Sunday arrested seven suspected drug peddlers at their hideout at Awutu Bawjiase in the Central Region.

Four of the suspects, who had in their possession substances suspected to be Indian hemp and were in the process of selling them, were arrested by a police patrol team. 

They are Avoka Quaye, 32, unemployed, Shadrack Abekah, 21, kente weaver, Fuseini Nortey, 42, a scrap dealer, and Kwabena Richard, aged 32, a coconut seller.

The three others: Samuel Kweku Tawiah, 51, Kwabena Atta, 47, a farmer and Ato Kwamena, 21, a mason, were arrested at a different location while smoking ‘wee.’

All the suspects are currently in police custody assisting in investigations.

Briefing

Briefing the media at Agona Swedru last Sunday, the Swedru Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Ahmed Issah Yakubu, said the patrol team was carrying out its normal duties when it was given a tip-off about the activities of the suspects.

The police retrieved seven slabs of Indian hemp, 127 wrapped pieces of the Indian hemp and 124 smaller packages for sale from the suspects.

The police have mounted a search for some other suspects who managed to escape the arrest.
