Insulting The President

President John Dramani Mahama is not the first Ghanaian president to suffer unprintable insults from his opponents. Indeed all presidents before him including President John Agyekum Kufour and Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah had their fair share of unjustifiable insults.

On the President's recent visit to Germany, some element of the Ghanaian opposition organized a demonstration against him.

Our view is that the right to demonstrate is guaranteed by the 1992 constitution and that the citizens ought to be free to organize even if they are wrong.

However, the right to free expression which is the umbrella under which the right to demonstrate falls does not confer the right to peddle falsehood and to …Insult.

The "Insight" is simply shocked by some of the inscriptions on the placards held by some of the demonstrators in Germany.

It is time to stop those insults because they belittle the political debate.

Please stop it!
