Rural communities without electricity within the Tamale South Constituency in the Northern Region  would be connected to the national grid before the end of 2016.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, said this when he inaugurated a rural electrification project at Gbabshie in the Tamale South Constituency last Sunday.

The project formed part of the MP's initiative to ensure that all rural communities in his constituency had access to electricity to enhance the living conditions of the people.

Mr Iddrisu pledged to donate a milling machine to the community to prevent them from walking long distances to grind their cereals such as corn and millet into flour for food.

At the ceremony, Mr Iddrisu expressed the hope that the community would reciprocate the gesture and vote massively for him and President John Dramani Mahama  in the 2016 general election.

Discriminate
He said the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was a people-centred government  and would, therefore, not discriminate against any community in terms of the provision of development projects whether it voted for the party or not.

Development
Mr Iddrisu, who is also the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, stated that no beneficiary of the restructured Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), aimed at providing skills and short-term employment to the youth, should be paid below the approved GH¢7 minimum wage set for the year by the government.

He gave the assurance that the government would continue to work hard to generate jobs to address the youth unemployment challenges faced by the country.

The Chief of the community, Naa Fusieni Zei, thanked the MP for the provision of electricity and appealed for more development projects for the community.
