President John Dramani Mahama has deplored the manipulation of the justice and security systems by some people to defraud foreign investors.

He said the delivery of quality justice had been one of the reasons behind Ghana's image as a leading investment destination and expressed worry that there had been a few instances when investors had complained about how local people manipulated the system to defraud them, adding that if not checked, the situation could scare investors away from Ghana.

President Mahama, who stated this when he swore in five new justices of the Court of Appeal at the Flagstaff House yesterday, mentioned gold scams as one scheme used by people to manipulate the system to defraud the investors.

He consequently urged the Judiciary to pay attention to the practice and help to maintain Ghana's image as an attractive place for investment. The new justices are: L.l. Mensah, Henry Kwofie and G.S. Suurbaareh, who have been elevated from the High Court.

The rest are: Mrs Angelina M. Domakyaareh from the Bar, and Mabel Agyeman, a former Chief Justice of The Gambia. 

They took the oath of allegiance, judicial oath and oath of secrecy.

Government’s support
President Mahama said over the years, the government had supported the development of the judicial system in diverse ways and mentioned the e-Justice programme, which had already been rolled out, as an example.

He announced that the government would in March, this year support the programme with an additional $5million to by Red AdBlocker" href="#">enhance the justice delivery system.

He also said he was looking forward to the completion of the new court building complex in Accra.

Congratulations

President Mahama congratulated the justices on their elevation and expressed the hope that they would live up to expectation.

"You have a huge responsibility in upholding justice in the society," he told them.

The President also asked judges to be sober to reflect the positions they held.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Justice Mensah promised the President that they would work within the confines of the law to promote the justice system.

Present were the Chief Justice, Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood and Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, a Justice of the Supreme Court, as well as the Chief of Staff, Mr Prosper Bani.
