NPP Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful has urged President John Dramani Mahama not to go by the counsel of his advisors.

According to Mrs. Ekuful, the President's advisors are causing much 'harm' to the Ghanaian economy and so, it behoves President John Mahama to stop relying on those who advise him on national issues.

"Stop listening to those who are advising you. They are doing you harm and listen to the cry of the people out there," she said.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", she pointed out that the erratic power supply has over the years been threatening local businesses and collapsing same.

Several Ghanaians, according to her, are lamenting about the huge losses they're making in business and the lives of others, particularly in various hospitals in the country, are at the verge of death.

Hon. Ekuful proposed that the Mahama-led government must come up with pragmatic steps to fix the economy.

She wondered why, in the 21st Century, Ghana still falls behind the technology era where countries such as Japan have adopted solar panels to augment their power supply.

"....why can't the Mahama government buy crude oil in large quantities now that the price of crude oil has reduced on the international market?" she quizzed.

The erstwhile Kufour government, she noted, managed to resolve the energy crises during her regime even when the price of crude oil has hiked up to $146 per barrel as compared to the over 40 dollars per barrel under President Mahama regime.

The NPP MP and Gender Activist was also baffled at the Mahama administration's failures to resolve the energy crises in the country, saying for close to three years the government has failed to find a panacea to the problem.

Mrs. Ursula Ekuful found the President's alternatives to the situation inimical to the wellbeing of Ghanaians, and believed the ruling party appears more concerned with winning the 2016 elections than lessening the struggles of Ghanaians.

She accused government of ignoring the most important things that affect the lives of the people and indicted the president for neglecting his duties and galavanting across nations instead of fixing the many problems the country is plagued with. 

To her, President Mahama's frequent trips abroad is a clear demonstration of the difficulty in the current living conditions in the country.

“President Mahama has created a mess for all of us and he can’t live in it. He only comes to drop his dirty laundry, picks fresh ones and leaves,” she said.

The Ablekuma West MP urged government to encourage Ghanaians to use solar panels saying "every new construction should have solar panel on the roof," and admonished the current administration to stop "rubbing its testicles" and fix the economy.

“Simple [simple] things, common sense; let’s start applying it and using it…Today, by God’s grace, the price of crude oil has been reduced. Go and buy some to generate power, and solve of these immediate problems that we’re going through,” she fumed.
