Two robbers suspected of hypnotising students in Kumasi before robbing them, have been arrested. Anthony Boateng, 27, and Yaw Owusu Banahene, 24, are said to use ‘juju’ to hypnotise their victims.
According to the police, a number of students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and some residents of Twunduase in the university vicinity had been robbed of their valuables, including laptop and mobile phones by the suspects.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) George Tweneboah, the Manhyia Divisional Police Commander told newsmen here yesterday that Boateng was arrested on January 24, and led the police to arrest Banahene the following day.
He said on January 23, the two suspects, and their two accomplices, Victor and Fuseini, now on the run, attacked students of the KNUST at the Nana Adoma Hostel at Twunduase at about 11:45 p.m. at gun point and robbed them of five mobile phones, a modem and a tablet.
The suspects, the same night, robbed the Manager of the Nhyiaeso branch of the CAL Bank, at the entrance of his house of his mobile telephone, a wallet containing GH¢700, and his car key.
At about 10:15 a.m., on January 24, the suspects, with a mechanic, took a VW Golf car, AS 9949 Z, from a garage for a robbery operation.
To outwit the police, the suspects fixed a police logo on the car’s windscreen.
Luck, however, eluded them, as they were spotted by some residents of the area who raised the alarm, which resulted in the arrest of Boateng and later, Banahene at Santasi and a laptop, an Ipad and four mobile telephones and GH¢304 cash were recovered from him.
The police said all the suspects, in their caution statement admitted their offences.
