The Catholic Institute of Business and Technology (CIBT) is to establish a technology campus at Mepe in the Volta Region as part of its strategic plan to expand the scope of programmes to meet students' needs.

The new campus is expected to run programmes initially in nursing and allied health studies and progressively add other faculties such as engineering, pharmacy and agriculture.

Professor Samuel N. Woode, Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of the CIBT, said this in Accra on Friday at the University’s congregation where 129 graduated with degrees in public administration, computer science, and business administration, while 25 students graduated with MBA in Global Business and Sustainability.

He said the University’s confidence stems from that fact that it operates under the umbrella of the University of Ghana, while students had met the rigorous standards of the University in awarding degrees.

Prof Woode said the University’s focus is to train students in other skills and expertise needed in building the economy of the country and explore the possibility of mounting programmes in entrepreneurship.

He said Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology had given approval to mount two new undergraduate programmes in Information Technology and Procurement and Supply Chain Management leading to award of a BSc degree.

Prof Woode said the University has enjoyed cordial relationship with its foreign partners including the Faculty of Economics of the Catholic University of Milan in Italy with the introduction of Master of Business Administration in Global Business and Sustainability with specialisation in Social Enterprise.

He said the University had entered into fruitful discussions with other sister Catholic Universities such as Mount Saint Vincent University in Canada, Berconi in Italy and have enjoyed cordial exchange programmes of students and faculty.

The Professor urged the students to be focused and used the knowledge acquired to facilitate national development.

A speech read on behalf of Prof Ernest Aryeetey, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, said the premier University, cherishes the collaboration with its affiliate institutions and is committed in creating platforms for engagement.

He said the University is in the process of introducing new four-year PhD programmes to provide students with strong grounding in theory and would not relent in promoting academic excellence using the highest international standards of learning.

Prof Aryeetey urged the graduates to learn to be creative and become self-employed to justify the investment made in them and not join the association of graduate unemployed.
