The Korle Bu Senior Staff Association (KOSSA) has called on the management of the hospital to institute a welfare system to address the healthcare challenges of its members.
Such a system, it said, must ensure that members of the association were able to access health care, including the supply of medication, free of charge without joining the normal clients’ queues.
It said members of staff of Korle Bu used the same channel that clients of the hospital used in accessing health care and also pay for the services offered them by the hospital.
KOSSA made this known at its end-of-year party and durbar held on the theme: “Care for us”, in Accra last Friday.
Briefing the Daily Graphic during the party, the President of KOSSA, Mr Charles Ofei Palm, described the situation as unfair, adding that some workers of the hospital sustained injuries in the course of their work but had not been paid compensation.
However, in the past, the hospital had a good welfare system for its workers but that had been stopped, he said.
He said if KOSSA’s demands were not considered, it would, on March 6, 2015, embark on a peaceful demonstration to demand an appropriate welfare system.
According to Mr Palm, the association needed assurance from the authorities that the hospital would provide workers the appropriate welfare needs.
“This inadequate welfare, if not considered, will affect productivity at the hospital because staff will be reluctant to deliver services,” he said.
The occasion was also used to honour 10 KOSSA members who had contributed immensely to the development of the association in the past year.
