70-Yr-Old Man Shoots Dead His 27-Yr-Old Wife...

An ex-soldier, Joseph Yaw Owusu, 70, has allegedly killed his wife and shot himself in the process in the early hours of Monday, February 2, 2015.

The ghastly incident happened around 4:00am at Fawonsuo, a cottage near Benue Nkwanta in the Sunyani Municipality of the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Reports Daily Guide gathered are that the old soldier shot his wife, Rejoyce Nuvor aka Mama, 27, at a close range with his single barrel gun, and afterwards used the butt of the gun to hit the head of his 9-year-old son, Kofi Oti and later killed himself.

The injured boy, who was bleeding profusely, was said to have run to a police barrier at Benue Nkwanta - about 1 kilometer away – and informed them about the incident.

The Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander, ACP Patrick Adusei Sarpong, confirmed the incident to Daily Guide when contacted.

ACP Adusei Sarpong indicated that the deceased left a suicide note explaining his callous act.

In the note the old soldier maintained that his wife had been treating him badly and even collaborated with her father to cause his arrest.

The Sunyani Municipal Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Samuel Yankey, also said when the police got to the scene, the woman was found in a pool of blood alive, but died shortly after her arrival at the hospital. The bodies of both husband and wife have since been deposited at the regional hospital.

C/Supt Yankey said the police were yet to establish the reasons for the man’s action as family members of both sides were being invited to assist them in their investigations.

Meanwhile, the father of Mama, Albert Nuvor, disclosed that the old soldier had a fight with his daughter about a week ago during which the man bit the breast of the wife. He said the matter ended at the police station as the daughter was seriously injured.

According to him, his in-law had in recent times been fighting with the wife, and that he had, with the help of their local church leaders, tried on several occasions to resolve the impasse between the now deceased couple. The couple had three children - Kofi Oti and his little twin siblings - who are about four years old.
