Prez Mahama Tours Tema Power Enclave

President John Dramani Mahama has paid a working visit to the power enclave at Tema.

Accompanied by the Minister of Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor, the visit was to enable the president have firsthand information on what was being done to tackle the energy challenges of the country.

Other ministers on the trip were that of Communications, Dr Edward Omane Boame and Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo.

Ghana for the past three years has been facing challenges with energy. The problem has been attributed to low water level in the Akosombo dam and lack of gas to power the country’s thermal plants.

Areas the President visited on Tuesday included the Sunon Asogli Power Plant where he inspected the progress of an ongoing construction work that will enable the plant generate some 360 megawatts of power.

The independent power plant owned by Shenzhen Energy and China Africa Development Fund, has an installed capacity of 200 Megawatts, and already contributing 180 Megawatts of power to the national grid.

At a press conference on Monday, the Minister for Power, Dr. Kwabena Donkor assured that the Mahama led government was determined to end the power crisis by end of 2015.
