The Eastern Regional Police Command has mounted a man-hunt for a notorious criminal and his accomplice who are said to have committed a number of heinous crimes in the region.

Mohammed Umaru Baami, 22, and his accomplice, Ibrahim Umaru, 23, according to the Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Yaagy Akuriba, are wanted for multiple crimes including murder, robbery, causing harm and stealing.

In two months, he said, the suspects had killed two persons and had between 2013 and now robbed a good number of people of their possessions.

The police administration has offered to give GH¢5,000 to anyone who provides relevant information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects.

The two have been on the police wanted list since 2013.

Facts

At a brief media engagement in Koforidua yesterday, Mr Yaagy said Baami and five other accomplices were suspected to have shot dead a man identified as Alhaji Dandale Omaru in his room at Trado, a suburb of Nkawkaw.

"Mohammed Umaru Baami is suspected to have organised this heinous crime," Mr Yaagy stated.

Also on December 3, 2014, Mr Yaagy said, five men armed with pistols attacked Zakari Tanko in his house at Nkawkaw and shot him dead.

"Suspect Mohammed Umaru Baami, who is about 5.6 feet tall, fair in complexion and slim, called the victims in the two murder cases and threatened them on phone before committing the crime," he said.

Additionally, Mr Yaagy said the suspect and other accomplices were also wanted by the police for stabbing Mr Fuseini Hamadu who was currently on admission at a hospital.

Mr Yaagy explained that on December 10, 2014, Mohammed Umaru Baami and other accomplices lured their victim, Fuseini Hamadu, from Prang in the Brong Ahafo Region to Nkawkaw Harbour in the Eastern Region and stabbed him several times and collected a huge sum of money from him.

In March 2013, the suspect and his accomplices stole 60 cattle belonging to Alhaji Dauda Kassim from a kraal in a bush near Agogo. That case, Mr Yaagy said, was pending before the Mpraeso Circuit Court.

It is also on police record that Baami and his gang, armed with locally manufactured pistols, robbed traders in a Nissan Urvan bus between Hweehwee and Simpoa of their money and mobile phones.

Mr Yaagy said the victims, Esther Saha and Wofa Yaw  were among the traders who suffered gunshot wounds during the incident.

Following that incident, Mr Yaagy said,  Baami and one of his accomplices, Ibrahim Baami, were arrested and put before the Koforidua Circuit Court.

They were, however, acquitted and discharged on August 12, 2014 on grounds that the evidence was a sham.
