NDC Supporters Threaten Massive Demonstration If,....

Some aggrieved supporters and members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Techiman North and South constituencies at the weekend threatened a massive demonstration against the leadership of the party in the Municipality.

They have given the national executive body of the party a one month ultimatum to resolve an alleged impasse between the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Philip Oppong Amponsah and the two NDC Members of Parliament (MPs) in the area.

According to the NDC supporters in the Techiman, the protracted dispute between Mr. Adjei Mensah MP for Techiman South, Mr Alex Kyeremeh MP for Techiman North and the MCE could affect the fortunes of the NDC in Election 2016 if immediate Steps are not taken to resolve it.

To them, they cannot look on unconcerned as the NDC party in the Municipality is divided into factions, which has lead to great disunity among the party supporters in the area.

Mr Kwadwo Adjei, a leading member of the NDC in the Brong-Ahafo Region, and spokesman for the aggrieved supporters, told journalists in Techiman that the factionalism has eaten its way up into the constituency executives, a situation he described as “dangerous”.

He explained that the unhealthy relationship that existed between the three prominent party personalities in the area, had brought division among their followers, creating unnecessary tension within the party.

“We will not sit down unconcern and allow the personal interests of these personalities to generally affect our fortunes in the 2016 general election”, Mr Adjei stressed.

He said attempts made by some key personalities in the municipality to resolve the problem had not been unsuccessful and called on the national executive body of the party to intervene as quickly as possible.

“What we are not particularly happy about is even the trading of insults among ourselves on the airwaves”, Mr Adjei, a businessman said.

He emphasized that retaining power in 2016 would not be so easy for the NDC, and urged all party supporters and sympathizers to explore and concentrate on how best they could reach out to the grassroots and intensify campaign, rather than engaging in petty backbiting and internal wrangling.
