The Premier League have announced that broadcast rights for live games for the 2016-19 seasons have been sold for a record £5.13 billion to BSkyB and BT.

The latest package represents a 70 per cent increase on the previous TV rights deal, with Sky Sports retaining the much sought after 'Super Sunday' and 'Monday Night Football' slots as well as adding Friday night coverage.

Live Premier League rights are currently split between BSkyB and BT, with the former showing 116 matches, with 20 'first picks', and the latter showing 38 matches, with 18 'first picks'.

The new deal will see BSkyB's total rise to 126 games while BT will show 42, with both broadcasters paying an average of £10.2m per game.

The first ever broadcasting deal for the Premier League, back in 1992, cost just £191 million - or £0.6m per game - while the most recent previous package, from 2013-16, costing £3bn - or £6.5m per game.
