Barton Oduro Was Misconstrued - Kate Addo

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ebo Barton Oduro has indicated that he was misconstrued in a statement he made on Citi FM.

Ebo Barton Oduro, had earlier stated on citifmonline.com that the ongoing power crisis is not the reason for the collapse of businesses in the country. According to him, the businesses need to analyse themselves and find out the actual reason for failing and not just blame it on 'dumsor'.

“If business owners are unable to implement, then we are not getting anywhere and that is why I talked about the assessment. Why did you fail in this regard and what can you do to better your lot the next around? We need to measure all these things and that is why quite a number of businesses, and I am not saying all businesses tend to end up collapsing prematurely. I don’t think they go through this kind of processes.” he said.

But speaking on behalf of Barton Oduro on Thursday's edition of PEACE FM morning show 'Kokrokoo', Kate Addo, Deputy Director of Public Affairs of Parliament said the First Deputy Speaker was misconstrued.

According to her, he knows the difficulties of the power crisis but was just urging "businesses to consider other factors when assessing the viability of their businesses.”

“it was not his intention to downplay the effect of the dumsor; he will never do that...he said it is true that the Dumsor is disturbing business but that is not the only factor that causes business to fail and so there is the need for assessment” she indicated.
