Doe Adjaho Clears Air On Bloated Cabinet List

The speaker of parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho on Tuesday challenged any Constitutional breach by President John Mahama in terms of the number of cabinet ministers he could appoint. He  was reacting to claims by the minority last Friday that the president had breached the Constitution by appointing 20 cabinet ministers instead of the maximum of 19.

The speaker said the recorder of the debate made a mistake in printing 20 cabinet ministers in the February 3 Hansard of parliament after the Ministry of Energy was split into two – Petroleum and Power.

According to Mr Adjaho, he had a new list of cabinet ministers numbering 18 – and that was official.

He said that President Mahama would by the end of the week decide on which of the two ministers in-charge of Petroleum and Power would be made a cabinet minister.

He apologised on behalf of the editor of the debate and said that if the president came out with the final list, it would accordingly be communicated to parliament.

Parliament officially passed the Youth Employment Agency Bill (2014) yesterday after its third reading.
