Teacher Poisons Wife Over Sex

Residents of Akyem Sekyere, near Anyinam in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region, were over the weekend thrown into a state of shock when a 29-year-old teacher allegedly attempted to kill his wife and the children over the wife’s purported refusal to have sex with him.

The man, Ampofo Twum, has been charged for attempted murder and is currently being detained by the regional police command to assist in investigation.

He was said to have ground a Club bottle and mixed it with okro stew while the wife had gone to church – with intent to poison the family. Confirming the incident to Daily Guide, the Anyinam District Police Commander, DSP Jeffery Darko, said the teacher at Akyem Sekyere Presbyterian Junior High School, last Sunday attempted to kill his wife, Rebecca Asirifi, for denying him sex.

According to DSP Darko, the accused after his arrest, pleaded guilty and said his wife did not render proper accounts on the sale of the commodities in a shop he had opened for her and had also been denying him sex on many occasions.

DSP Darko said Ampofo Twum ground a Club bottle and mixed it with some okra stew prepared by his wife before going to church; and after the wife had served the food to the children upon her returned, discovered the particles of bottle in the okra stew.

The Anyinam police chief stated that the wife later came to the station to lodge a complaint against the teacher, who was later arrested and detained at the Regional Police Command awaiting trial.
