The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) collected a total of Gh¢1,159,737,000 in the year 2013 from 1,120,512 contributors nationwide.
This was up from the previous year’s figure which stood at Gh¢934,133,000 put in by 1,051,429 contributors.
A document made available to the Daily Graphic showed that out of the amount, a total of Gh¢620,820,000 was paid as pension while Gh¢692,314,000 was paid as benefits.
From the records, there are, as of the period under review, 129,691 pensioners. It also revealed that the total average contribution for the year 2013 amounted to Gh¢857.14, same as the previous year.
Last year, the total benefits paid between January and November amounted to Gh¢868.31 million. Gh¢750.32 million was paid to pensioners while Gh¢117.99 went to survivors.
Presently, the monthly total pension payment is Gh¢94 million while the number of pensioners as of December 2014 stood at 140,000.
Out of the number, 66,717 are on the minimum pension. These are those who received a minimum of Gh¢200 in 2014 while the maximum received Gh¢22,292.
