National Organizer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has condemned the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ‘Wongbo’ demonstration insisting that the NPP is responsible for the current energy crisis.
Members of Ghana’s largest opposition party, NPP including its 2016 flag bearer, Nana Akufo Addo poured onto the streets on Wednesday to protest the erratic power situation in the country.
But speaking in an interview with Citi News shortly after the protest, Kofi Adams criticized the protestors advising them to rather channel their frustration at former President John Agyekum Kufour who he accused of being responsible for the current crisis.
"Their demonstration is not going to solve any problem. It has rather taking away from the proper discourse of this subject.”
“If President Kufuor and the NPP had continued the program laid by President Rawlings, we will not have been in the situation we find ourselves today,” Kofi Adams insisted.
He further urged members of the NPP to rather collaborate with government to quickly resolve the problems.
Meanwhile, the National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sidii Abubakar has also described the ‘Won Gbo’ demonstration as needless.
This, he said, is because the president has admitted the effects of the power crisis and is subsequently working towards addressing the problem hence rendering the demonstration counter-productive.
Speaking to Citi News, Sidii Abubakar explained that though “I am not saying that Ghanaians are not feeling the dumsor problem” he said there was the need “to also acknowledge the fact that his Excellency President Mahama is not sitting down unconcerned.”
He cited the emergency power barges that being secured from Turkey as some of the initiatives government has adopted to ensure that the power crisis is mitigated.
“When you look at the emergency power barges, all these things are quick move that his Excellency is doing just to make sure that Ghanaians are happy,” he added.
