EC Commence Training For Presiding Officers

The Ningo-Prampram District office of the Electoral Commission has started training programmes for election officers to man the polling stations in the upcoming district level elections.

Mr Charles Botchway, the Ningo-Prampram District Electoral Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that a total of 191 officials would undergo the training.

Mr Botchway said the training started with 77 presiding officers on Wednesday while the others would have theirs on February 21 and 26.

He added that the district would use 77 validating officers and 77 name reference officers at the 81 polling stations in the District.

He said the training was to properly equip the officers on how to conduct a peaceful election at the polling areas.

Mr Botchway indicated that there would be no elections at four polling stations in the Mangotsonaa and South Dawhenya electoral areas.

He explained that assembly members for the two electoral areas were standing unopposed.

The EC Officer also stated that there would be no unit committee elections at 14 electoral areas in the district.

He explained that in those areas, either there were five unit committee members aspirants or less.

Mr Botchway said the CI 68 indicates that "a unit is made up of seven members, five elected and two appointees", noting therefore that areas with only five contestants or less would not have an election.

On the number of women aspirants, he lamented that women contestants were on the low side.

According to him, no person with disability was contesting for either the assembly membership or the unit committee.
