Ghana Navy To Pay Goodwill Visit To Cote D�Ivoire

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro, will lead a high-powered naval delegation for a four-day goodwill visit to the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire beginning Sunday.

Two Ghana Navy Ships, GNS NAA GBEWAA and GNS CHEMLE as well as the Ghana Navy Regimental Band will also be part of the visit, according to a statement issued by Public Relations Directorate of the Ghana Armed Forces.

“The purpose of the visit is to promote stronger military ties and maritime cooperation between the navies of Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire. This follows a successful visit recently by the Ghana Navy to the Republics of Togo and Benin,” the statement signed by Lieutenant Commander Andy La-Anyane, Deputy Director, Information and Press Relations, said.

The statement said as part of the visit, Rear Admiral GM Biekro will pay courtesy calls on some senior military officers of Cote d’Ivoire whilst the team will engage its counterpart in games, band display, passage exercises, maritime cooperation discussions and visits to tourist sites.

“The highlight of the visit will be a maritime exercise between the two navies which is aimed at fighting piracy and armed robbery at sea.”
