A former Finance Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Yaw Osafo Marfo says it sounds logical for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communicators to infuse tribal sentiment into his alleged statement concerning the 5 regions with all the resources in the country.

Yaw Osafo Marfo has recently come under heavy hostility after a tape emerged with a male voice spewing tribal comments.

The male voice alleged to be that of Osafo Marfo is heard bemoaning why Akan-speaking people, whose regions are rich with natural resources, are not the ones at the helm of managing affairs in this country.

“…You have all the resources, but you have no say in the management of your resources and that is what is happening. Your development depends on the one who has no resources…you can’t say this openly,” the voice said.

The tape was captured at a meeting between the former Finance Minister and the NPP’s Council of Elders in the Eastern region.

Speaking on Oman FM’s "National Agenda" Morning Show, Yaw Osafo Marfo says this is typical propaganda of the ruling NDC communicators to doctor tapes with modern technology as they have done same in the past against Dr. Mensa Otabil.

He bemoaned it is the agenda of the NDC to shift the emphasis on the fact he made during the meeting with the NPP Eastern Regional Council of elders; admitting it is true he said 5 regions harbor all the natural resources but insisted he never added that people from the aforementioned regions should manage their resources.

“Some of the words in the recording are true and what is wrong with the fact that all the state resources are found in 5 regions? They added to the voice that people from the Akan regions have no say in the resources and it becomes logical to draw that conclusion...people know my voice and with modern technology, my voice can easily be mimicked...it is not true that I discriminate as people want to portray; I hate tribalism and if there is anybody who has most of his friends outside his tribe then it is me because almost all my bosom friends are northerners. I have served publicly and the people I worked with are all people from different tribes. At the Finance Ministry, my special assistant was from Volta Region,my driver is Krobo and my secretary was Ga,” he stated.
