Prez Mahama Must Stamp His Authority Or Else - Alhaji Bature

Managing Editor of the Al-Hajj Newspaper, Alhaji Bature has said some government appointees are likely to drag the Mahama-led administration into a state of ignominy.

According to him, some government appointees are “greedy” whiles others are looting from government coffers without any second thought.

Bature was discussing the recent disturbing revelations involving former Minister of Energy, Dr. Oteng-Adjei's conduct both within and out of office, and his admission that he kept a luxurious vehicle meant for rural electricity extension project as reward for his stewardship, but returned it on the morning of February 24, 2015 after the Minority in Parliament raised red flags.

Former Energy Minister, Dr. Oteng-Adjei after returning the car admitted he erred to have kept the cars even though it has been alleged by NPP MP, Hon. K.T Hammond that there is another car in his [Dr. Oteng-Adjei] possession.

Speaking on Adom FM, Alhaji Bature who is also a known sympathizer of the ruling NDC said that he is "saddened” at the former minister’s conduct, and stressed that President Mahama cannot succeed with such corrupt appointees around him no matter how hard he performs.

The president must put his feet down or else things will go worse. I strongly believe the president is working very hard but it will be in vain if he has such corrupt ministers at post or in his government.”

I am very sad because the likes of Mr. Oteng-Adjei are still in president Mahama’s government and other government institutions. I am pleading with the president, he is working hard but he must put his feet down…it is important....…Because the president [Mahama] and the party [NDC] will suffer in the final analysis not those corrupt individuals. It seems that anybody can do whatever he or she likes and get away with it in this country...Institutions responsible for curtailing such crimes must take actions. They shouldn’t wait till the president give instructions before they will act, ” he added.
