A facility to make airport engagements easier for the physically challenged would soon be initiated at the Kotoka International Airport.

Mr. Paul Craig, Managing Director of Aviance Ghana, told the GNA in an interview that “we have an initiative with the airport authorities to help the disabled.”

“We are thinking of a facility that would handle people in wheel chairs more decently and with a lot more comfort too.”

Mr. Craig said this initiative could be achieved by the end of the year.

Touching on other areas, he said a second cobus was to be brought in during the course of the year to transport passengers from arriving aircraft, whilst another high loader, a big tow truck called a push back tractor and another ambulift are also to be acquired to enhance operations at the airport.

A push back tractor is used to move an aircraft around when the engine is off and an ambulift is used to lift wheel chair bound passengers.

Mr. Craig said Aviance was committed to improving upon its services in line with government’s policy to develop the Kotoka International Airport into an aviation hub.

Earlier this year, Aviance acquired a state of the art Cobus2700s for facilitation of passengers.

The board of Aviance Ghana has approved a two-year equipment plan of $3 million  which would see more ground handling equipment being acquired.

Established in 1994, Aviance Ghana provides a range of ground handling services to airlines at the Kotoka International Airport.

The services include the management of an executive lounge for first and business class travelers, passenger check-in and baggage handling, the loading and unloading of cargo from freight flights and a cargo ware house operation for all import and export needs.
