Cocobod Disburses Over Funds To Students

The Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod) is spending over GHC10 million as scholarship for second cycle public schools in the 2014/2015 academic year.

Currently 11,038 beneficiaries from forms one to three are under the scholarship scheme, Mr. Joseph Omane Baah, Deputy Administrative Manager of the Scholarship Unit of the Board, said on Wednesday at Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa West District.

Mr. Baah was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after a regional farmers’ education and sensitization rally organized by Cocoa Health and Extension Division of Cocobod, Sunyani, which was attended by about 1,000 cocoa farmers from cocoa growing districts in the region.

He said before the 2014/2015 academic year, 2,500 students were considered as new beneficiaries annually but it had now been increased to 5,500, implying 120 percentage increase while per term Cocobod spends GHC308.00 on each student, making it GHC924.00 annually.
