An aspiring Assemblyman is calling on his colleagues to join him in suing the Electoral Commission after the Supreme Court suspended the much anticipated District Assembly elections scheduled for March 3, 2015.
According to Nicholas Nii Boye of the Klorweikonaa electoral area in the Ledzokuku constituency in the Greater Accra Region, all the vigorous campaigns involving time and resources have been wasted due to the EC’s “negligence”.
The Supreme Court has declared the District Assembly election as unconstitutional and ordered the EC to begin the entire process using the appropriate legislation.
This was after an aspirant, Benjamin Eyi Mensah, sued the EC in court after he was disqualified on the ground of late submission of nomination forms.
The panel of judges led by Justice William Atuguba ruled in favour of the fisherman declaring the elections “unconstitutional”.
This ruling has received mixed reaction from some of the aspirants. Whiles some believe it will give them more time to meet their constituents, many argue it will hit them hard.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Nicholas Boye said it will have a negative impact on his campaign.
“Due to the EC’s negligence, my constituents have chopped my banku and drunk Joy Daddy for free” he bemoaned.
He explained that he has run out of resources therefore the suspension means his opponents will have an advantage over him.
“I have spent all my resources so this ruling will affect me. I don’t know how to raise money for another campaign” he bemoaned.
The aspiring Assemblyman charged all aspirants to join him in his campaign to get the EC to pay them their monies.
“The EC must pay the monies we have wasted; this is unacceptable” he exclaimed.
