EC Should Stop This Yentie obiaa Attitude - Afenyo-Markin

Lawyer for Benjamin Eyi Mensah, the fisherman who dragged the Electoral Commission (EC) to court has advised the EC to respect the laws of the country.

Benjamin Eyi Mensah, a fisherman aspiring to become the assemblyman for the Eyipeh Electoral Area within the Effutu District of the Central Region, dragged the Electoral Commission to the Supreme Court over the election body’s refusal to register him as an aspirant for the District Assembly and Unit Committee Elections slated for March 3, 2015.

His disqualification was premised on late submission of his nomination forms.

However, the Supreme Court today declared the March 3 district assembly elections unconstitutional which mean that the District Assembly and Unit Committee polls have been postponed until further notice.

Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Efutu Constituency, believes the EC could have avoided this situation.

He indicated that as a statutory bodt set up by law, the EC should have acted professionally and according to the law.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin accused the EC of causing financial loss to the state and called on the relevant bodies to retrieve all the funds expended on the cancelled elections. f
