EC In Emergency Meeting Over D/A Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) will be holding an emergency meeting to consider the Supreme Court ruling as well as the way forward.

The Supreme Court by a unanimous decision on Friday suspended the organization of the District Level Elections stating that it is unconstitutional.

The Court ordered the commission to start all over again CI 85; a legal instrument which seeks to demarcate electoral boundaries for the district elections in 2015.

Public Affairs Director of the EC, Christian Owusu Parry told Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview that an emergency meeting will be held on Monday to set a new date for the election.

He described the ruling as a major setback but however indicated that the Commission will abide by it and ensure that the right thing is done.

"It wasn’t our wish for this to happen. We thought we were using the right law but since the court says otherwise; we will abide by it...it was not intentional".

He also responded to the Aspirants who want to take the Commission to court since according to them the money they invested in the process had gone wasted due to the suspension.
