Ghana Police Is Not A Weak Institution - Kweku Baako

Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako has come to the defense of the Ghana Police Service, claiming that the Police Service should not be seen by Ghanaians as a weak institution.

According to Kweku Baako, the Police Service does not deserve to unduly be under the microscope over the recent enlistment fraud perpetuated by some yet-to-be known faces.

The Ghana Police Service arrested about 14 people in connection with a fraudulent undertaking allegedly perpetuated by a certain female Police officer to facilitate the recruitment of people into the security service over the weekend.

A copy of the enlistment letter which has been made available to Peacefmonline, indicates that the individuals were asked to go to the Ghana Police Training School to undergo a formal training where they will then be enlisted into the Police force.

Little did the applicants know that the move was a major scam by some persons to swindle them off their monies.

Since the fraud was exposed, the Police has embarked on a mission to hunt down the perpetuators.

However, several critics have described the Police force as a "weak institution" to have allowed their internal security measures to be breached.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Kweku Baako noted that the fraud was as a result of "occasional failures" that occur in every security institution. To him, no matter the security resources and apparatus; a breach of the internal system could occur.

So, the point is not to look at the Police. Listen. Then, you’re looking at the Police as a weak institution. That’s not where the emphasis should be because these people are not Police personnel. We don’t have that evidence. Since we don’t have it, then don’t overrate it in making conclusions. Don’t proceed on that premise and dwell on that conclusion...the Police institution itself, that there’s an element of complicity.

As far as I’m concerned, it is not as dangerous and as serious the way we’re seeing it. That’s my view. I think we’re overrating this matter because it did not take place."

He held strongly that what occurred is purely "fraud from beginning; fraud at birth...There was no way the Police institution, as an institution, was going to facilitate enlistment out of that fraud. It’s not possible."
