Ghanaian Urged to Eschew Negative Tendencies

Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister on Friday said Ghanaians must eschew some negative tendencies that were derailing the progress of the nation.

He questioned why people build on water ways, involve in corruption, sell public lands to private developers and insults with counter accusations on the airwaves, to drum home the level of moral decadence and poor attitude to work and responsibility.

The Western Regional Minister was speaking at the 58th anniversary ceremony to mark Ghana freedom from colonial rule at the Jubilee Park, at Takoradi.

Mr Aidoo said the country's independence must inspire the citizenry to work in discipline, devoid of certain bad tendencies, adding that "whilst the rest of the world is making huge progress, several African countries are saddled with poverty, corruption and hatred ".

He said it was also unfortunate that the educated continue to look down on the uneducated, who are equally capable of contributing their quota to development.

The Minister encouraged school children to take the opportunity offered them to prepare for future leadership roles.

The independence parade had in attendance the security agencies and voluntary organizations.

The occasion was also used to reward some distinguished students who performed creditably in both the WASSCE and BECE examinations.

Mr Aidoo however directed some districts assemblies, to as a matter of urgency, fund the educational bills of these needy but brilliant people, who are still at home and had not entered the universities.
