Minority Should Have Condemned Osafo Maafos Tape Omane Boamah

Communication Minister, Omane Boamah has lashed out at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority in parliament for not condemning the allegedly tribalistic Osafo Maafo tape at their press conference today.

The Minority in Parliament today March 9, 2015 presented its “True State of the Nation” address.

The highlighted shortfalls in President John Mahama’s State of the Nation address to Parliament less than two weeks ago and also pointed out the country’s difficult economic situation.

Minority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who delivered the address, said the issues presented in the address are critical to the nation. Their address centered on the country's severe energy challenges, the organization of the district level elections and many other issues which they believe the President did not talk about in his State of the Nation address.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Mr. Omane Boamah chastised the Minority in Parliament for only addressing issues that government is dealing with instead of addressing issues that pose a security threat to the country, including the contents of a secret tape said to contain the voice of former Finance Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo.

The tape, which has since gone viral, captures a male voice resembling that of the former Minister, bemoaning the corelation between regions with resources and those at the helm of power. The tape was apparently captured at a meeting between the former finance minister and the NPP’s Council of Elders in the Eastern region. “When Minority were giving their state of the address they did not condemn Osafo Marfo’s comment on ethnocentrism .You can do neat politics with addresses without unnecessarily dwelling on issues that are not needed.

“President Mahama will remain focused to continue to preach unity and so they should also bring their ideas to develop the country. I believe that the transformation agenda will come to pass and Ghanaians will smile” he stated confidently.
