Nana Oye Lithur: "We Won't Achieve Gender Justice Unless We Challenge Gender Stereotyping"

Nana Oye Lithur, the Minister for Children, Gender and Social Protection has stated that the World will not achieve gender justice unless steps are taken to tackle stereotyping.

To her, that real and sustained change was unlikely without a concerted effort on the part of all progressive social justice movements to leverage gender transformation in practice and in advocacy positions.

We will not achieve gender justice unless we challenge gender stereotyping,” she said.

Hon. Lithur who doubles as the President of the newly composed Bureau of Ministers of Social Development for ECOWAS was also affirmed that gender equality was not only a basic human right, but that its achievement also had enormous socio-economic ramifications since empowering women fueled thriving economies, spurred productivity and growth.

She made this known during an interview with Peacefmonline.com on the sidelines at the ongoing 59th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States of America (USA) which commenced on the 9th of March, 2015.
