Recruitment Scam: How Brown Was Busted

THE Western Regional Police Command has given details that led to the arrest of one Amos Kofi Brown, alias Ogyaframa, who is believed to be linked to the recent police recruitment scam.

At a press briefing organised at the regional police headquarters here at Sekondi, the regional commander explained that on March 3, 2015 at about 5pm, the police personnel of the Regional Criminal Investigation Department, Sekondi, had information that the suspect, Amos Kofi Brown, 40, who doubles as a media marketer and insurance agent, was collecting money from unsuspecting youth in the metropolis under the pretext of recruiting them into the Ghana Police Service (GPS).  

According to the commander, "The team proceeded to the suspect's house at Bakaekyir (Sekondi) and arrested him.

"A search in his room revealed 16 photocopies of results slips, four Ghana Police Service appointment letters and prospectus."

He said the team also found six birth certificates, lists of names of alleged victims, one Ghana Commercial Bank pay-in slip with the face value of GH₵11,400 bearing the name of one Patrick Eden Timbilla and account No. 1181120007220.

Other items found in the suspect's residence included 11 passport-size photographs and brown envelope bearing the address and account number of one Patrick Eden Timbilla. 

"Suspect claimed ownership of the items found in his room and mentioned one Baba Alifa, alias Baba Ali, as his accomplice. Suspect also admitted having the sum of GH₵4,000 from each of the 40 people he recruited for the exercise.”   

He said efforts are underway to apprehend the accomplices. 

He said a similar case has been recorded at Sefwi Asawinso in the region and was currently under police investigation.
