Petroleum Minister Visits Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company

The Minister for Petroleum Hon Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has paid a working visit to the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC) which is an agency under his ministry to acquaint himself with their operations and discuss ways to enhance their services especially in the petroleum downstream sector.

Hon Buah’s interaction with management of GCMC also bothered on the distribution of free gas cylinders and cook stoves across the country which has seen over 40, 000 gas cylinders and cook stoves being distributed in selected communities in the Upper West, Northern, Western and Central regions so far.

The Minister further assured the company of government’s continuous support to ensure successful operations and revealed plans to put in place strategic measures to make the company a profit making one whiles maintaining its relevance in the economy.

“One priority of the Ministry of Petroleum is to collaborate with GCMC to make gas cylinders and cook stoves available to many Ghanaians as possible to curb pressure on conventional sources of fuel for domestic purposes such as firewood, charcoal etc, thereby saving our depleting forests”. He stated.

Mrs. Elizabeth Yawa Morny, Chief Executive Officer of GCMC in her briefing mentioned that the company needed funding to purchase a hydraulic press which she described as very key in the production of gas cylinders and its auxiliary devices.

She further noted that the facility has inadequate equipments and logistics which tends to hinder production.

The Minister in his response assured them the ministries commitment to help address all the issues raised and also liaise with the Ministry of Finance to get the necessary funding to enable them improve their services.

Hon Armah-Kofi Buah was accompanied by his Deputy Hon Benjamin Dagadu, the Chief Director of the Ministry Prof. Thomas Akabzaa and some directors of the ministry.
