Dum-So Will Soon Be Over Muniru

The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna has assured Chiefs and people of the region and Ghana as a whole of the government’s preparedness and commitment to give a lasting solution to the numerous challenges facing the country, especially the frequent power outages.

According to him, the government of President John Dramani Mahama was not interested in providing extemporized or ad-hoc measures but rather a well fashioned resolution that would stand the test of time and also benefit the present people and the future generation.

Addressing the 58th Ghana’s Independence Day Celebration at the Jubilee Park in Tamale, Alhaji Limuna further noted that the government was equally working hard to improve on the various major roads to fast track socio-economic development across Ghana.

He mentioned the construction of the Fufulso-Damango-Sawla road, the Eastern Corridor roads to link the north to the south of Ghana, provision of potable drinking water, rural electrification, health and educational facilities and human empowerment among others.

The Regional Minister therefore called on the Chiefs and people of the region to offer all the necessary support to the government especially by maintaining the prevailing peace and unity in the region to succeed.

He expressed the need for the current generation to reflect on lessons of the struggle of the forefathers led by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the final attainment of the Ghana’s independence.

Alhaji Muniru Limuna further emphasized the need for the young people of this country who are the future leaders, to commit themselves to the same sacrifice, hard work, dedication and nationalism that was exhibited by our forefathers to make Ghana a better place to live.

He said that Ghana had not moved forward since independence, because of the repetition of the same economic policies and with the same attitude.

“The agenda to transform the structure of our economy has been spelt out by our president of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama and it is simply aimed at making Ghana an export driven economy rather than an import driven one.

“The cry about poor standards in education, poor quality of health delivery, poor agricultural productivity, lack of potable water and the famous “Dumsor” or power crisis can only be blamed on years of neglect by all of us as a people.
“This is because we have over the years continued to scratch the surfaces of these problems and have allowed the under to fester and rot”.

He said that the “Dumsor” was a temporal setback and assured the people of government resolve and determination to find lasting solution to it. Special awards were given to some schools and agencies for their various roles in the development of the region.

The Northern Regional Minister also made a personal donation of an undisclosed cash amount to the Yumba Special School in Tamale. This year’s Celebration was under the theme: “Achieving Transformation through National Unity”.
