High Glaucoma Cases Tied To High Cost Of Drugs

It is estimated that more than seven hundred thousand people are living with glaucoma in the country and nearly half of them do not know that they have the condition.

More than sixty thousand are already blind from the disease.

These figures were made known at the launch of the World Glaucoma Week celebration in Accra.

Presenting the status of glaucoma in the country, the Vice President of Ophthalmological Society of Ghana, Dr. Michael Gyasi said the high cost of glaucoma drugs has led to the rise in the incidence of the disease.

He is therefore calling on government to include the drugs on the NHIS list or make them tax-free
