Rainstorm Renders Hundreds Homeless @ Adankrono (PHOTOS)

Hundreds of people at Adankrono and Kade Zongo in the Kwaebibirim District of the Eastern Region have been rendered homeless as a result of a heavy rain storm that recently hit the area. About one hundred houses have their roofs ripped - off out of which about fifteen have completely collapsed.

The victims are currently perching with relatives and friends in the town and surrounding communities.

The Regional Minister, Antwi - Boasiako Sekyere upon hearing the incident rushed to the communities to have first hand information on the situation and to see for himself the extent of damage caused.

The minister after going round to see the devastation directed officials of NADMO to compile and do assessment on properties destroyed and to see how best the victims could be helped. He gave an assurance that affected schools would receive quick response in order to get the children back in classroom.

Mr. Sekyere described the situation as worrying because according to him, there is no wind breakers in the communities and apart from that most of the affected houses are weak.

He therefore entreated the community members to start planting trees to help avert any major occurrence in future.

The Regional NADMO Coordinator, Ransford Boakye added his voice to the minister's call to plant more trees. He said because most of their houses were built with mud and are weak, residents should try to put up new and strong buildings to help save them from frequently falling prey to such disasters.

The Chief of Adankrono, Nana Sarpong Kumankuma was grateful to the minister for coming to share their plight. He said they suffered a similar fate in 2011 where the town got flooded following a heavy down pour which also made late President Mills to visit them. He again called on all and sundry to come to their aid.
