A member of the Communications Team of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Richmond Lankwei Lamptey, has taken a swipe at the Electoral Commission (EC) for wasting the tax payer’s money on the suspended District Assembly Elections.

He could not understand why Ghanaians  are not demanding accountability from the EC after it (the EC) allowed colossal sums of monies to go down the drain.

He noted that Ghanaians by nature are afraid to be labeled hence the decision not to demand accountability from the EC.

Mr. Lamptey made these statements in an interview with Today over the weekend.

“We are all living a lie in Ghana because people are afraid to confront the status quo for fear of being labeled. We pay taxes to government and sit back for the money to be misused and everyone is quiet? Why remain quiet? Because some personalities, including pastors, have been vilified? We do not want to pay any price for this country to be successful,” the PPP man noted.

The worry of Mr. Lamptey, who is also the General Manager of Digicut Advertising Production Ltd., stemmed from the fact that Ghanaians were not angry after the EC wasted about GHC317 million on the botched District Assembly Elections which the Commission could have prevented that situation.

“Why are people not angry with the Electoral Commission (EC) for wasting GHC317 million? All Ghanaians should be very angry now, including the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), and people who make things happen at the EC should have resigned by now,” he opined.

According to him, the fact that the commissioners of the EC are still at post shows how “disrespectful” they are and the lack of respect they show to Ghanaians.

He recounted in what the PPP wrote to the EC just after the 2012 elections and expressed his disappointment with what had happened.

“They (EC) did not even care to show the courtesy of acknowledging receipt. This is exactly what they refused to do that landed them and the country where we are today in connection with the District Assembly elections,” he stressed.

“Losing GHC317 million in this way is simply an insult to all Ghanaians. Posterity should not deal leniently with those of us alive today if we let this go without a fight! We should protest until we get everyone who was part of the decision that led to this unnecessary and avoidable loss, pay for it somewhat,” he stated.

In his view, now that President Mahama has labeled himself as a dead goat nothing better will come from him.

“We need our money back – from Subah Infosolutions to Woyome and each one in-between and before,” he stressed

He went on to assert that If Ghanaians had rallied behind the PPP call to separate the Minister of Justice’s position from that of the Attorney-General to make it a position without political influence, Ghana would not be on this crossroad.

He indicated that he was not bothered to be labeled saying no one should be either.

“Let us fight together as Ghanaians to save this ship. We are sinking and all of us know it. Let us arise and make a difference,” he urged.
