The Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) has initiated restructuring processes to fast-track and open up new opportunities in the northern belt of Ghana.
According to Mr Emmanuel Abeere-Inga, Director of Integrated Development Programmes of SADA, donor partners had embraced, agreed and were supporting the restructuring and re-energizing the processes.
He was speaking at the launch of the International Investment SADA Forum, in Tamale attended by selected journalists drawn from the SADA implementing regions, namely Upper West, Upper East, Northern, Volta and Brong-Ahafo regions.
The four-day forum slated for March 24 to 28, this year, is under the theme “engineering opportunities and shared prosperity in the savanna region of Ghana”.
Mr Abeere-Inga explained the need to look into and strengthen the infrastructural base, open new areas of agricultural technologies and other economic opportunities to facilitate growth and development in the northern ecological zone.
He said SADA was going into new areas as well as creating and expanding, especially the opportunities and potential in the agricultural and other economic sectors in the northern savanna zone to attract international and local investors.
Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, the Deputy Northern Regional Minister, said SADA had come to stay and would work hard in portraying the economic potentials in the implementing regions.
Naba Sigri, the President of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs and Board Member of SADA, said transformation of the northern ecological zone depended on increased investment in the region.
This, he said, would create opportunities that would move many people in the region away from peasant to modernize and commercial agriculture, processing, packaging and manufacturing whilst diversifying the economy of the northern zone.
SADA was established by an Act of Parliament, SADA Act 805, on September 17, 2010 to create a fostered Green North by 2030, doubling the incomes of Northern Ghanaians and reducing poverty in the Northern Savanna Ecological belt by at least 20 percent.
