Aquinas Tawiah Quansah,Central Regional Minister, has appealed to journalists to criticise constructively, report accurately and collaborate with the government towards national development.

He said government would work with journalists for effective implementation of policies and programmes, saying “we cannot do it without the help of the media”.

Mr Quansah made the call at a meeting of NDC regional executives, members of the communication team and media practitioners from the region, in Cape Coast on Sunday.

The meeting, which was also attended by the metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives from the area, discussed developmental projects being initiated by the government in the region, and how the media could support development in the region.

Mr Quansah said the government was commited to developing the region, and mentioned the Komenda Sugar Factory, Cape Coast Sports Stadium, Kotokuraba Market and Essarkyir Water Works as some of the projects initiated.

He said the government would build a new regional hospital following the elevation of the current regional hospital into a teaching hospital.

Mr Quansah urged school authorities to ensure the implementation of the 30 per cent quota for residents to gain admission into senior high schools in the region, especially the well-endowed ones.

Bernard Allotey Jacobs, Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, has said the party would work hard to debunk the perception by some people that it is antagonistic towards the media in the country.

He said journalists, who play crucial roles in national transformation and development, could not be relegated to the background.

Mr Jacobs stressed that NDC executives would close the gap between the party and the media, but asked journalists to be circumspect in their reportage, refrain from using language that could breach the peace and adhere to the culture and norms of the country.
